Strahan Coliseum

Strahan Coliseum

Strahan Coliseum is a 7,200-seat multi-purpose arena in San Marcos, Texas. It was built in 1982 and is home to the Texas State University Bobcats basketball team.

Strahan Coliseum is an $8.8 million, 7,200-seat facility which was completed for use in 1982 for both the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the volleyball team.

Strahan Coliseum gives Texas State one of the finest playing facilities in the Southland Conference and in the Southwest. The Coliseum has a wood playing surface and all seats are individual, including 1,176 theater-styled padded seats.

The facility also houses four auxiliary gyms, a Maroon & Gold room for special events, and the central ticket office operations. The convert|126000|sqft|m2|sing=on facility has lighting which meets television specifications and can be expanded to over 8,000 seats for concerts and other events.

Construction on Strahan Coliseum first started in November 1979 and is located adjacent to Jowers Center, which originally housed the Texas State athletic administrative offices. The $4.7-million newly renovated Jowers Center houses coach's offices and locker rooms for baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, soccer and tennis. Additionally, the facility has racquetball and handball courts, a gymnastics competition area, two full size practices courts, weight rooms, training rooms, a student lounge, and laundry and equipment facilities.

Renovations for men's and women's basketball, volleyball, team meeting areas, and locker room and video facilities were completed in 2002 as part of Phase I of the Bobcat Legacy Campaign. A spacious reception area, sparkling coaches offices, a fully functional conference room with proper video equipment, renovated locker rooms, and a student-athlete study area/lounge highlight the renovations.

Strahan Coliseum is home to each of these three sports, and now they have modernized operational space to complement their playing arena.
