The Good Cause

The Good Cause

The Good Cause was the English name for Dutch pop group "Het Goede Doel" with the singer-duo Henk Westbroek and Henk Temming. They recorded an English version of their 1982 hit "België" [Although België means Belgium in Dutch language, the song refers to the Utrecht café "België" on the Oudegracht, famous for its 120 kinds of beer.] The song was translated into "Luxemburg (Is there life on Pluto?)"

Notes

If you translate the entire song, I do not see how this song refers to a cafe.... The song tours the world explaining why they do not want to live in any of the countries they mention (including the Netherlands where they feel oppressed/trapped ("want hier krijg ik het benauwd"). The song continues saying the only exception is Belgium which they say they might consider living in because everybody is laughing there. They also refer to "dat taaltje is zo zacht" ("that language is so soft") referring to Flemish (Belgian version of Dutch) which is softer (letter "G" e.g.) than Dutch when spoken.
