Mirae Asset Financial Group

Mirae Asset Financial Group is a leading independent financial services group in Asia[1], headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. While the group’s core business is asset management, it also provides comprehensive financial services in the areas of wealth management and life insurance. Mirae Asset was founded by Hyeon Joo Park in 1997 and introduced the very first mutual funds to Korean retail investors in 1998.

Mirae Asset Global Investments Group

Mirae Asset Global Investments Group is the asset management arm of Mirae Asset Financial Group. It is one of the largest investors in emerging market equities[2]. With around 550 employees, including more than 190 dedicated investment professionals (as of 30 June 2011), Mirae Asset Global Investments Group has a presence in Hong Kong, China, Korea, India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Brazil, the United Kingdom and the United States. Mirae Asset Global Investments Group manages over US$53 billion in assets globally (as of 30 June 2011).[3]

As one of the world’s leading investors in emerging market equities[4], Mirae Asset Global Investments’ goal is to provide consistent performance for clients supported by extensive on-the-ground research in the emerging markets.

Mr. Hyeon Joo Park is the founder and Chairman of Mirae Asset Financial Group. He had the vision to establish the Group in 1997 amidst the Asian Financial crisis and was the first to launch retail mutual funds in South Korea in 1998. Mirae Asset Global Investments Group, the asset management arm of the Group, is one of the market leaders in the Korean Mutual Fund Industry today, and Chairman Park has built Mirae Asset into one of the world’s largest investors in emerging market equities.

Mr Park is 52 years old, has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Korea University and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2002. Numerous awards and honors have been bestowed on Chairman Park such as “The most respectable CEO in 2008” by the Korea Management Association and “The leading CEO in Korea’s Financial Industry in 2008” by the Maeil Economic Daily.

BetaPro, together with its subsidiary Alphapro, manage the Horizons family of exchange traded funds, the largest ETF family in Canada with more than 70 ETFs listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and C$3 billion (US$3.1 billion) in Assets under Management[5]
