Sir Andrew Hamond, 1st Baronet

Sir Andrew Snape Hamond, 1st Baronet (17 December 1738 – 12 September 1828) was a British naval officer and British Governor of Nova Scotia from 1781 to 1782. Richard Hughes had preceded him in that position.

Born in Blackheath, London, England, the son of Robert Hamond and Susannah Snape, he joined the Royal Navy in 1753 and served during the Seven Years' War. In 1765, he was made a Commander and a Captain in 1770. In 1783, Hamond was appointed a Baronet. He was Controller of the Navy from 1794 to 1806 and from 1796 to 1806, he was a Member of Parliament for Ipswich. He also was a member of the Court for the Court-Martial of the crew members captured on Tahiti who were involved in the Mutiny on the Bounty.

He married Cecilia Sutherland in April 1763. They had no children. He married Anne Graeme in March 1779. They had two children: Graham Eden Hamond 2nd Bart., Admiral of the Fleet and Caroline Hamond.

Cape Hamond, (now Cape Saint Elias), in Alaska was named in his honour.
