Brown Publishing Company

The Brown Publishing Company is an Ohio newspaper business started by Congressman Clarence J. Brown in 1920. The company is still a family-owned business that publishes 18 daily newspapers, 27 weekly newspapers, and 26 free weeklies. The current CEO is Brown's grandson, Roy Brown. The current chairman of the board is Roy's brother, actor Clancy Brown. In 2007 the company purchased Dan's Papers, a free weekly based in Bridgehampton, NY from News Communications Incorporated. This purchase included, Dan's, The Montauk Pioneer, and the magazine, Hampton Style.

Brown Publishing is noted for its support of the Republican party in Ohio. Numerous editors and publishers have left the company, unwilling to follow directives related to political policies.
