Andrew Pyle (philosopher)

Andrew Pyle (philosopher)

Andrew Pyle (born 17 March 1955) is a British philosopher who is an expert on the history of philosophical atomism. Pyle is currently a Reader in Early Modern Philosophy at the University of Bristol, where he also received his doctorate. His dissertation, now a book called "Atomism and its Critics: Democritus to Newton", is considered a classic in the field of atomism. Pyle is also an expert on the history of science and has given talks within the university and internationally on the nature of science historically. Achievements of Pyle consist of numerous editorial roles, such as with the popular philosophy journal, Cogito, and his study on Malebranche (Routledge, 2003), which contributed to an area within the History of Philosophy literature which has been ill addressed among contemporary English-speaking philosophy. Pyle's expertise includes the history of epistemology and metaphysics in modern philosophy from Descartes to Kant.
