Psilanthropism

Psilanthropism

In Christianity, Psilanthropism or Socinianism is a Christological view that believes Jesus was merely human.

The expression "merely human" can refer either to Jesus' substance (nothing more than a man) or to his existence in time (no existence prior to his becoming a man), or both.

The presumed etymology of "psilanthropism" stems from the Greek "psilo" (merely, only) and "anthropos" (man, human being).

Psilanthropism was rejected by the ecumenical councils, especially in the First Council of Nicaea, which was convened to deal directly with this.
