Tableaux de Provence

Tableaux de Provence

Tableaux de Provence (Pictures of Provence) is a programmatic work by Paule Maurice written between 1954 and 1959 for solo alto saxophone with orchestral or piano accompaniment. It was dedicated to Marcel Mule, a French saxophonist. The movements describe the culture and scenery of Provence, southeast France, where the Mule and Lantier families spent some time.

The piece has five movements:
* Farandoulo di chatouno / Farandole des jeunes filles (Farandole of young women)
* Cansoun per ma mio / Chanson pour ma mie (Song for my love)
* La Boumiano / La Bohémienne (The Bohemian woman, or The Gypsy)
* Dis alyscamps l'amo souspire / Des alyscamps l'âme soupire (A sigh of the soul for the alyscamps)
* Lou cabridan / Le cabridan (The bumblebee)
