Mendonça

Mendonça is a common Portuguese and Old Galician surname (sometimes anglised versions appear as Mendonca). The Spanish variant is Mendoza. The name derives from Basque mendi (mountain) and (h)otz (cold), which in turn provides the name for a village in Álava featuring a castle-tower that belonged to a noble family of the Middle Ages.
