Doora

Doora

Doora (Irish: Dúire ) is a locality in Ireland. It is situated in County Clare. It is home to a well-known equestrian center.

Doora is a locality in the parish of Doora-Barefield in County Clare. Its name is derived from the Irish Dubh Rath which can be translated as Black Fort. This name can most likely be attributed to the large area of bogland in the locality. In the Ordnance Survey Letters by John O'Donovan and Eugene Curry 1839, Doora is translated as Duire referring to bogland or wetland ref Clare County Library and also in The Topography of County Clare by John Frost, when the use of Dubh Rath became common is difficult to identify as there seems to be no historical reference to it.

Doora has its own local church St Breckans, local school, GAA ground at Gurteen and well known local pub "The Shibeen". "Writer Joe Queally's son, Joseph junior, is also well known as a member of the Spoonogues. The Spoonogues are a group of elite athletes from around Ireland who travel the globe in pursuit of athletic perfection.[1] Joe Queally Jnr is athletic perfection .[citation needed]
