Hadas

Hadas

Hadas ( _ar. حدس; acronym: Arabic: الحركة الدستورية الإسلامية, or Al-Haraka Al-Dostooriya Al-Islamiya or "Islamic Constitutional Movement," is a Kuwaiti Sunni Islamist Organization. It has 21 members in the National Assembly of Kuwait in the new 2008 iteration.

Hadas was established on 31 March, 1991 following the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi invasion in the Gulf War. The group of people that started the Movement and still control it are Kuwaiti Islamists following the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood, most notably is Jassem Mohalhel.

The Movement pushed candidates in all the elections for Kuwait's National Assembly starting from 1992. However, it suffered a big setback in the elections of 2003 which resulted in only two seats of the 50-seat Parliament out of 15 candidates.

This defeat forced Hadas to restructure its internal system to allow more bottom-level members to be involved in electing the leadership, which allowed a younger generation of activists in the Students' Union of the Eighties to take the lead.

In the election of 2006, Hadas succeeded in becoming one of the largest blocs in the Assembly with 6 members. In the election of 2008, however, this number was decreased to only 3.

The Current Secretary General of Hadas is Bader Al-Nashi.
