Joseph Boyden (born 1966) is a Canadian
novelist andshort story writer. His debut novel, "Three Day Road ", won the Amazon/Books in Canada First Novel Award in 2006, and was a nominee for the2005 Governor General's Awards . It previously won the inauguralMcNally Robinson Aboriginal Book of the Year Award.He grew up in Willowdale,
Ontario and attended the Jesuit-runBrebeuf College School .Boyden, of Irish, Scottish and
Métis heritage, writes about the First Nations voice,First Nations heritage and culture. "Three Day Road", a novel about twoCree soldiers serving in the Canadian military duringWorld War I , is inspired byFrancis Pegahmagabow .He studied creative writing at
York University and theUniversity of New Orleans , and subsequently taught in the aboriginal student program atNorthern College .He divides his time between
Louisiana where he teaches creative writing andNorthern Ontario .On
March 1 ,2006 , "Three Day Road" was named winner of theRogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize for 2005."Three Day Road" was chosen for inclusion in "Canada Reads 2006", where it was championed by
