Judge Hatchett

"Judge Hatchett" was a nationally-syndicated American television program produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It starred The Honorable Glenda Hatchett and was modeled after other "court shows" such as "The People's Court" and "Judge Judy", as well as containing elements from tabloid talk shows such as "Sally Jessy Raphael" and "Maury Povich". In addition to dealing with traditional small-claims lawsuits (with a plaintiff, defendant, and monetary awards sought), she also handled DNA paternity tests and out of control teens.

Though Hatchett showed a deep concern for her litigants over all, she was criticized by some for being overly harsh to younger defendants, especially minors in her "Out of Control Teens" situations. For instance, she was known to send them off on trips to learn their lesson. Her fans, however, interpreted her punishments and harshness as "tough love" and proof that she cared about them and wanted to set them on the right path.
