- Absolute Entertainment
Absolute Entertainment was a
video game developer and publisher that produced titles for theAmiga ,Atari 2600 ,Atari 7800 ,Sega Game Gear , Sega Genesis,Sega CD ,Game Boy ,Nintendo Entertainment System , andSuper Nintendo Entertainment System video game console s, as well as for the PC. It also released games for theSega Master System inEurope . The company was formed in1986 by formerActivision employees Dan andGarry Kitchen ,Alex Demeo ,John Van Ryzin andDavid Crane . While the company was based inGlen Rock, New Jersey (and later inUpper Saddle River, New Jersey ), David Crane worked out of his home on the West Coast. This company's name was chosen because it had to be a name that was alphabetically above Activision (it was the same strategy that Actvision chose when the programmers leftAtari , and alphabetically above all the other companies that were founded by former employees of Activision (Accolade andAcclaim for example). The company is probably most notable as having developed the cross-platform "
Battletank " series of games and the original "A Boy and His Blob " game for the NES console. The company saw a number of badly received titles towards 1995 including a game based on the sitcom
Home Improvement . After a series of failures in video game sales, the founding fathers finally pulled the plug on Absolute Entertainment in1995 in order to devote their time to the creation of a new company calledSkyworks Technologies . The company's holdings are now owned byActivision , as indicated by the inclusion of Absolute Entertainment'sAtari 2600 games on theActivision Anthology collections.Games
