Career

Suffield's first professional acting role was in a 2003 episode of the children's series Magic Grandad, entitled Toys: in 1953.[citation needed] She was featured in an advertisement for 'Master Storyteller, Magic Grandad', 1 episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot (Five Little Pigs)[2] and in two episodes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.[citation needed] She is a voice for one of the children in CBeebies toddlers programme Boo![3] She appeared on The Friday Night Project in 2005.[4] Melissa helped raise money for Children in Need in 2007 by appearing in a special Beatles medley featuring cast from EastEnders and in Children In Need 2008 doing a West End when Melissa did Mary Poppins. She also appeared in a Motown medley for Children in Need 2009.[5] Melissa is best known for her appearance in television soap EastEnders, where she played Lucy Beale, daughter of Ian Beale, a long standing character. She also appeared in the 2010 spin-off series EastEnders: E20 as Lucy. Suffield is currently filming Rough and Ready II, where she will play Sammy.

Personal life

Suffield was born on 24 December 1992 in London, England. She plays the guitar and piano among many other instruments at which she is skilled. Although she does not take lessons or perform, she enjoys singing too, as was shown in the EastEnders Beatles medley for Children in Need 2007 and in the 2008 appeal, in which she performed a song from the stage version of Mary Poppins, alongside Laurie Brett, who plays her on-screen stepmother, Jane Beale. She has since reprised a singing role in the EastEnders Children in Need medley for 2009. She has taken ballet lessons since the age of two, and still dances under the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus at the intermediate grade. Suffield has three sisters; Jessica, Daisy and Annabelle.[6]

In August 2009, Suffield took part in a documentary called 16: Too Young To Vote? as part of BBC Three's Adult Season, where she journeys around the United Kingdom to find out whether 16-year-olds should get the right to vote. In September 2009 she reported for the BBC Watchdog programme on the dangers of sunbeds. She also exposed centres that were not following guidelines by checking peoples ages. She took part in a celebrity version of total wipeout.

In May 2010 it was announced that she had been axed from EastEnders after she allegedly ignored warnings about her "unruly" behaviour,[7] although the character would be retained with another actress in the role.[8]
