RAF Kirknewton

RAF Kirknewton is a former Royal Air Force (RAF) station at Whitemoss, a mile south east of Kirknewton, in City of Edinburgh, Scotland.

It was primarily an RAF radar base which also housed United States Air Force personnel, as in 1952 some USAF units tasked with providing mobile radio facilities to the USAF arrived. They left in 1966. Now officially closed, it houses No. 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron flying Grob Viking gliders.

No. 289 Squadron was formed as an anti-aircraft co-operation unit on November 20, 1941 at Kirknewton.
