United States House of Representatives elections, 1844

The United States House election, 1844 to select Representatives to the Twenty-ninth Congress were held in the various states between July 1, 1844 and November 4, 1845 in which all 227 members of the United States House of Representatives were elected and who took their seats when Congress assembled December 1, 1845. It coincided, more and less, with the Presidential election of 1844. The new states of Texas and Iowa were added during this Congress; electing their Representatives in 1846.

Darkhorse candidate James K. Polk, a Democrat, won the White House in 1844, but his party lost several seats. However, they kept their large majority. The American Party, based on anti-immigration and anti-Catholic feelings, also picked up its first seats in Congress.
