Seaport Village

Seaport Village is a shopping and dining complex overlooking the bay in San Diego, California. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries on convert|90000|sqft|m2|-3 of waterfront property. The Village contains several freestanding buildings in an assortment of architectural styles, from Victorian to traditional Mexican. It is designed to be a car-free environment, with four miles (6 km) of winding paths rather than streets connecting the various buildings.

Shops

54 shops line the winding walking pathways, ranging from cruiseware and San Diego souvenirs to specialty vendors that cater to refined slices of the population. For example, Seaport Village is home to shops devoted exclusively to hot sauce, music boxes, wind chimes, hammocks, kites, and the world's largest selection of mugs. Around the area there are many carriage-rides that are provided for visitors as well as a carousel for additional entertainment.

Restaurants

Seaport Village is home to four bay-view restaurants: the Harbor House restaurant, Edgewater Grill, Buster's, and the Pier Cafe. In addition, a food court and many snack stands are open to sustain the visiting families, tourists and cruise ship daytrippers.

History

Seaport Village was built on landfill over Punta de los Muertos, where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy. In later years it was a railroad yard where goods and other products were unloaded from ships and loaded aboard trains for shipment east.
