Asosa (formerly known as Aqoldi) is a town in western Ethiopia and the capital of the Benishangul-Gumuz Region (or "kilil") of Ethiopia. Located in the Asosa Zone, this town has a latitude and longitude of coord|10|04|N|34|31|E, with an elevation of 1570 meters.

Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Asosa has an estimated total population of 20,226, of whom 10,929 were males and 9,297 were females. [ [http://www.csa.gov.et/text_files/2005_national_statistics.htm CSA 2005 National Statistics] , Table B.4] According to the 1994 census, which is the latest official population count for Ethiopia, Asosa had a total population of 11,749, of whom 6,324 were males and 5,425 were females. It is the largest settlement in Asosa woreda.

This town has an airport with a 6398 × 152 ft (1950 × 46 m) paved runway. The airport's IATA code is HASO, and its ICAO code is HASO.

A Belgian force from the Congo captured Asosa 11 March 1941, destroying the Italian 10th Brigade and capturing 1,500 men. During the Ethiopian Civil War, with help from the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front the Oromo Liberation Front captured Asosa from the Derg in early January 1990, and held the city for a brief time.
