Bettany Hughes

Bettany Hughes (born 1968) is a broadcaster and writer.

She has presented several Channel 4 television documentaries on ancient history.

Biography

Hughes was educated at Notting Hill & Ealing High School, in Ealing. She won a scholarship to read Ancient and Modern History at St Hilda's College, University of Oxford, achieving a 2:1. After graduating she travelled through Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Her father is the actor Peter Hughes and her brother is the cricketer and journalist Simon Hughes. Her husband is Adrian Evans, the creator and producer of Archaos and the director of the South Bank Thames Festival.

During a debate on "Starkey's Last Word" on 4th December 2006 she said she had always voted Labour.

When asked by the "Evening Standard" the question, "If there were three, beautiful naked women standing in front of you, which one would you pick? Does this have any relevance to economics?" Bettany answered, "I would have a bit of a lesbian something going on with this one. I would find a reason to pick all of them to justify taking all three of them home."
