Michigan Architectural Foundation

Michigan Architectural Foundation

Michigan Architectural Foundation is housed in the historic Beaubien House, one of Detroit's oldest residential properties. The foundation shares office space with the Michigan Society of Architects. The foundation's address on 553 East Jefferson in Detroit, Michigan is near the Detroit River.

The Michigan Architectural Foundation acknowledges contributions by architects and allied artists within the state. For example, in 2004, the foundation honored Salvatore Moschelli for his volunteer work for the Grace Center for Hope in Pontiac, Michigan and the CANstruction event, a program of the Gleaners Community Food Bank. At the ceremony, the foundation commended Rocco Romano, author of Architecture: It's Elementary, a guide book for elementary school teachers who are teaching children about the built environment.

The foundation administers the annual David Evans Memorial Grant for Historic Preservation, with the support of the Clannad Foundation. The sixth annual award contributed funds to the Pettibone Creek Hydroelectric Station Rehabilitation Project in Milford, Michigan. The powerhouse was designed by Albert Kahn in 1939 as part of Henry Ford's experimental effort to bring the industrial revolution to small farming towns in Southeast Michigan.
