Donohoe moved to Kansas in 1989 to start his own medical device company, Donohoe and Associates. He has been married for 42 years and has 5 children and 9 grandchildren.^[1]

Donohoe's website lists his main issues as energy, tackling the state budget crisis, tax relief, property rights, quality education, support for life and ethical stem-cell research, and lawful treatment of illegal immigrants.^[2] He describes himself as a "fiscal conservative, for limited government, a strong proponent of individual property rights, and pro-life."
