Guaratiba is a large neighborhood located in
Rio de Janeiro. It has one of the city's smallest population densities.
Due to its territorial size is divided in sub-regions or sub-neighborhoods:
Barra de Guaratibais located at the lowland situated in the south of Serra da Grota Funda, including mangroves and an access point to Restinga de Marambaia.
Pedra de Guaratibais situated along the neighborhood's coastal region, with access to Sepetiba Bay, where the fishery activity is strong.
Ilha de Guaratibais essentially a rural area, including the southeastern face of Maciço da Pedra Branca.
The region is currently expanding due to real estate investment because the access to the neighborhood is predisposed to be made easier due to
Grota Funda tunnel, scheduled to be finished in 2008.cite web | title = Sinalização ruim da Serra da Grota Funda | url=http://rjtv.globo.com/Jornalismo/RJTV/0,,MUL203805-9097,00.html | accessdate = 2008-04-15 | publisher=RJTV/Globo ]
