History

Melissic acid was named as such because Melissa is derived from a Greek word meaning bee, owing to the abundance of nectar in the flowers which attracts bees.

Synthesis

n-Triacontanoic acid was synthesized by Bleyberg and Ulrich (1931) and by Mrs. Robinson.[1]

Self-assembly

Triacontanoic acid and triacontanamide (CH3(CH2)28-CONHI) can be self-assembled.[2]
