Meat and potato pie
A rack of homemade meat and potato pies.

Meat and potato pie is a popular variety of pie eaten in Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Cumbria in Northern England. Of note, this dish is popular in towns such as Barrow-in-Furness,[1] Blackburn and, notably, Wigan (whose residents are known as the pie-eaters[2]). A meat and potato pie has a similar filling to a Cornish Pasty and differs from a meat pie in that its content is often minced and usually less than 50% meat. They are typically eaten as take-aways.

It consists of a pastry casing filled with potato, either lamb or beef, and sometimes carrot and/or onion.[3] They can often be bought in a specialty pie shop, a type of bakery concentrating on pies, or in a chip shop.

The dish has been promoted by cooking duo The Hairy Bikers. One of the two, David Myers, claims that they are his favourite food, choosing Green's Pie Shop in his home town of Barrow-in-Furness, as his favourite pie-makers.[4][1]
