McGill University School of Information Studies

The School of Information Studies (SIS) at McGill University is engaged in the education of information professionals, individuals who can make a difference to the management and design of information resources, services, and systems to ensure adequate access to information and knowledge for all.

SIS inherits the rich ‎traditions of service from librarianship. As the pioneer school ‎in Canada, SIS has been offering programs at McGill since 1897, and its MLIS degree has been ‎continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1929.[1]

SIS offers the following programs[2]:

  • Master of Library and Information Studies, with streams in Librarianship, Archival Studies, or Knowledge Management
  • Ph.D. in Information Studies
  • Graduate Certificate in Library and Information Studies
  • Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies

Research

SIS professors are engaged in four major research areas on a variety of projects funded by a number of major research agencies.
