The original building dates back to before World War I and was built by a Christian sect, who called themselves Capusens. The building was inhabited by the followers of this sect for many years. After the National Education Ministry decided to open a high school in the Kadiköy district, negotiatians that lasted many years took place between the ministry and this puritan Christian sect. In 1955 the school opened as the Maarif College. In 1968 a second building was added to the school which served as a pension. In 1976 and 1977 two more buildings were added. For many years it was ranked as the biggest highschool in the Balkans.

After a new education structure was established in the Education Ministry, the schools name changed from Maarif Koleji to its present name, Kadikoy Anadolu Lisesi(Kadikoy Maarif). Today the school is accepted as one of the three most important high schools in Istanbul.Facts|date=February 2007 Like the two other, Galatasaray Lisesi and Istanbul Lisesi, it used to have 2-years prep. period and an independent curriculum, but from the year 2006 the system has changed.
