Distributed Networked Battle Labs

The Distributed Networked Battle Labs (DNBL) is an initiative used across the Alliance by NATO Agencies, NATO & PfP nations, Industry and Academia. The DNBL product is the exchange of data through Networks. The framework provides the legal umbrella, the organisational concept and the administrative and technical processes to arrange and offer services as part of a published service catalogue. Each service is defined by a Service Description and a Service Level Agreement and is based on agreed standards (The DNBL General Terms and Conditions). The DNBL framework has been in operation since 2010 and has supported multiple testing events in the area of Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

Purpose

The aim of the DNBL framework is to support Test & Experimentation activities and enable collaborative experimentation, testing, verification and validation with a wider community of contributors. The framework’s cooperation is based on a legal and administrative umbrella (DNBL Operating Model) and standardised processes and procedures for offering, negotiating and consuming services.

The Framework

The services delivered by the Community to the Community and the DNBL Members can be both Service Provider and/or Service Subscriber. Individual Services can be assembled to complex packages to meet Test and Experimentation requirements. This flexible approach allows for the hosting of small “one to one” DNBL Events up to the very large/complex “many to many” DNBL Events.

The DNBL framework is based on three principles;

• Reuse: existing capabilities and facilities through DNBL services

• Reduce: time and cost to prepare and conduct testing and experimentation events

• Recycle: lessons learned and knowledge management from testing and experimentation services and events in the DNBL community

Membership

DNBL Membership is open to Entities / Industries / Academia from NATO Nations, PFP Nations or NATO. Interested organisations can apply for membership by subscribing to the General Terms and Conditions which are available on the public part of the DNBL portal.
