Anglican Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao

Anglican Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao

The Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao was one of the dioceses in the Anglican Communion which did not previously belong to an ecclesiastical province. It was formed in 1951 from the previous Diocese of Victoria in the Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui. However, following the effective abolition of the SKH in mainland China, due to the formation of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, the diocese essentially became extra-provincial to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The diocese was abolished in 1998 upon the formation of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui as a province of the Anglican Communion in its own right, the diocese being split into four: three new dioceses within Hong Kong, and a missionary area covering Macau.
