Delhi Public School, Bathinda (DPS) was established in 2003 at Goniana road, Bathinda in the state of Punjab in India.[1] It is a day residential senior secondary school on a sprawling campus of 14 acres (57,000 m2) with facilities for swimming, horse riding, football, basketball, hockey and cricket. The school had 1429 students and 90 staff in September 2009. It has two single-sex hostels. The students are drawn from as far as Thailand (as many as 15 students from Thailand are pursuing studies in DPS Bathinda, as learning English at home is costly),[2] U.S.A., Canada and Hong Kong to attend. The founder principal was Dr. T C Williams.

Campus

Delhi Public School, Bathinda

The Delhi Public School, Bathinda campus is spread over a lush green, pollution-free area of about 14 acres (57,000 m2) of land, on the main Bathinda-Goniana Road. The campus is divided aesthetically and thematically for the convenience and utility of students.

The hostel blocks constitute a separate section away from the school building within the secure precincts of the campus. It provides an ambiance for a simple and quality lifestyle. The hostel complex has a girls' hostel and a new state-of-the-art boys' hostel with adequate staff to take care of students. Facilities such as separate recreation room, common room and laundry have been provided in the complex.

Easy accessibility to the multimedia lab is an added advantage for the students. DPS Bathinda is committed to inculcate competitive spirit and deep instinct to excel in academic activities among its students. It is a vivid reflection of the mettle and dedication that goes into the making of excellent institution with a noble mission.[3]

Student council

The Student Council is a body of student representatives, lead by the head girl and head boy.[4]

Sports

The school sends teams for basketball, football , tennis and cricket tournaments, conducting training after school hours. Seven students have been selected for the national camp for ball badminton, basketball and judo.

Activities

The school is well-known in the region for its special focus on the all-round development of the personalities of its students.

It provides the students opportunities to participate and showcase their talent in intra- and inter-school cultural, literary and sports activities. The school had the honor of hosting the Inter DPS Football Tournament in October 2008.[5]

In another Inter DPS Vocal Music competition organised at DPS Amritsar in May 2011 DPS Bathinda secured third position in the group song and second position in the solo song.[6] The Delhi Public School Bathinda organised its annual exhibition Kritee:2011. It was the showcasing of the talent of the students who had worked all the year around.[7] The swearing-in ceremony of the new students council of DPS Bathinda was held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.[8] An anti-cracker cycle rally was taken out by the students and teachers on 22 October 2011 in Bathinda to create awareness about the hazards of bursting crackers during Diwali festival.[9]

Achievements

DPS Bathinda Won Inter School Round Limca Book of Records QUIZ-2011 organised by Derek O'Brien & Associates, on 30 August 2011.[10] DPS Bathinda won the Inter DPS North Zone Cricket Tournament held August 12-15.[11]
