Croats of Hungary

The Hungarian Croats (Croatian: Hrvati u Mađarskoj) are an ethnic minority in Hungary. According to the 2001 census, there were 25,730 Croats in Hungary or 0.26% of population.[1]

Croats of Hungary belong to several ethnic subgroups. Following Croat ethnic groups called themselves through history as Croats: Burgenland Croats, Podravina Croats, Pomurje Croats.[2] These Croats live along Croatian-Hungarian border and along Austrian-Hungarian border.

There're also Bunjevci, Šokci, Tots, Dalmatini.

Geography

Croat communities are scattered in the several parts of Hungary, mostly in the western and southern part of the country, and along the Danube, including Budapest with neighbourhood.

According to 2001 population census, 7294 Croats lived in Baranya County, 3836 in Zala County, 3481 in Győr-Moson-Sopron County, 3215 in Bacs-Kiskun County, 3124 in Vas County, 1525 Croats live in Budapest, 1504 in Somogy County, 721 in Pest County, 262 in Csongrad County, 170 in Tolna County, 157 in Fejer County, 131 in Veszprem County and other.[3]
