Cristian Tănase (born 18 February 1987 in Piteşti[1]) is a Romanian football player, who plays for Steaua Bucureşti. He is a versatile midfielder that has played as a left winger, a right winger and as a central attacking midfield. His nickname is Dodel.

Career

Tănase began his career on youthside for Argeş Piteşti and in the summer of 2003 was promoted to the Liga I team, having played for half a year in the 2005/2006 season five games for Dacia Mioveni on loan.[2]

Steaua

On 6 August 2009 he signed a 5-year contract with Steaua Bucureşti for a transfer fee of 1,8 million euros. Argeş Piteşti will be receiving also 50% of a future transfer fee.[3] Juventus Torino and other clubs like Fiorentina, Besiktas, Shakhtar and Stuttgart eyed the Romanian starlet until he signed his current club. Many have claimed Tănase is the new Adrian Mutu.[4]

On 13 December 2009 he scored his first goal for Steaua in a 3–2 victory against Internaţional Curtea de Argeş, which was a fantastic winning goal in the 72nd minute.[5]

In the 2010–11 he scored 3 goals, 2 in the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League and one from a spectacular volley against Liga I side Pandurii Targu Jiu. in the 2011–12 season he showed he was in perfect form by scoring in a 4–0 win against Liga I side CS Dacia Mioveni and scored the goal that qualified his team in the 2011-12 UEFA Europa League against CSKA Sofia. He continue his perfect form. Scored 2 essential goals against Maccabi Haifa. On November 6 he scored another goal against Liga I side Concordia Chiajna with a knuckle ball shot to the far post.


International career

Tănase played his debut for the Romania national football team in a friendly game on 19 November 2008 against Georgia.[6] On 1 April 2009 he scored his first goal against Austria.[7]
