It is also a town with a population of about 2000 people. The greater area includes Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte, Riverland, Riverbend, and Crested Butte South.
The town of Crested Butte and its surrounding mountains are well known as an outdoor recreational hub of central mountains of Colorado. Popular activities include skiing, rock climbing, mountaineering, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hunting and fishing.
