Leo Carrillo State Park

Leo Carrillo State Park

Grease" was filmed"'
Leo Carrillo State Park, Malibu, California is the closest Pacific Ocean beach to Thousand Oaks, California. To get to this beach from inland, one must travel a mountain road (either Decker Canyon Road {Highway 23} or Mulholland Highway) which can be quite hazardous. But once on the beach, an RV park, a mountainous beach with a sea cave, and a cove are available to the beachgoer. At low tide the tide pools can be explored.

If one travels the Pacific Coast Highway to get to the park, it appears less exceptional, and is quite easily ignored. However, this beach is the only one with a sea cave on the entire Santa Monica mountain range.

The park was named for the California actor, Leo Carrillo (1880-1961), who served on the State Parks commission.

Leo Carillo Beach's biggest claim to fame is as a popular location for photographers and movies, including "The Karate Kid," "The Craft," and "Point Break."
