Poppy Merritt was introduced as the new general practitioner for Walford, [" [http://www.colekitchenn.com/pm-actresses.htm Actresses] ", Cole Kitchenn personal management. She was first seen diagnosing Morgan Jackson-King with chicken pox, when she mistook Bianca Jackson to be married to her boyfriend Tony King, and put the idea of marriage in Bianca's head.

She appeared again when Dot Branning had food poisoning, and made the link with Dot's food poisoning to a batch of unchilled food sold by Patrick Trueman at the Minute Mart. She said it was her duty to report Patrick and his wife Yolande to environmental health.

While cycling past Pat Evans' house, she came across Bianca shouting at Whitney Dean for being miserable. Poppy went up to talk to her, but Whitney didn't admit to being sexually abused by Bianca's partner, Tony, though she did own up to feeling suicidal which prompted Poppy to let Bianca know that she needed to be to a psychiatrist.

The following day, Poppy left Bianca a telephone message asking to rearrange the psychiartist's appointment after Whitney failed to show up.
