* 1905 – The "Scott Special" arrives at Dearborn Station in Chicago, Illinois, 44 hours and 54 minutes after departing Los Angeles, California. * 1910 – Construction begins on the Sheridan Railway in Sheridan, Wyoming.
* 1914 – The Karkamış to Ceylanpınar line of the Baghdad Railway opens.
* 1942 – A section of the Sind Peshin State Railway in the Chappar Rift, in present day Pakistan, is destroyed by a flash flood; the line has not been rebuilt.

* 2005 – Amtrak resumes limited "Acela Express" service with four daily departures each from New York and Washington, DC.
