Geoffrey Lewis Tiarks

The Rt Rev Geoffrey Lewis Tiarks was Bishop of Maidstone in the latter part of the 20th century [Crockford's clerical directory 1975/76 Lambeth, Church House ISBN 0108153674] . He was also the Godfather of Peter Phillips [ "Royal christening" The Times Friday, Dec 23, 1977; pg. 12; Issue 60194; col B ]
Born into an ecclesiastical family [His father was "The Rev Lewis Hermann Tiarks", sometime Rector of Lerwick >"Scottish Episcopal Clergy, 1689-2000” Bertie, D.M: Edinburgh T & T Clark ISBN 0567087468 ] on 8 October 1909 he was educated at Marlborough College and St John's College, Cambridge [“Who was Who 1897-1990” London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] . Ordained at Southwark Cathedral in 1932 after a Curacy at "St Peter’s Walworth" [ [http://www.southwark.anglican.org/parishes/292bw.htm Information about church] ] he was for many years a Naval Chaplain [ [http://website.lineone.net/~stephaniebidmead/0079t.htm Period as RN chaplain] ] . Following this he served the Church in Rondebosch, was then Vicar of Lyme Regis and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight.
