The Vice President and Prime Minister is the Head of Government of the United Arab Emirates. So far, all but the first Prime Minister has also served as Vice-President of the country. While not required by the UAE constitution,[1] historically the ruler or the deputy ruler of Dubai has served as the Prime Minister. The current Prime Minister is Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. He became Prime Minister on 11 February 2006, after his older brother Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum died on a visit to the Gold Coast of Australia.
The Prime Minister chairs the Council of Ministers, which meets once a week in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
