She was born in
Munich on November 14, 1981, to a German father and a Japanese mother. When she was three, her mother read that a German violin teacher recently returned fromJapan after studying theSuzuki method . Steinbacher was started on violin lessons at that time. When she was nine years old she enrolled at the Munich College of Music and mentored byAna Chumachenko .Steinbacher came into contact with
Ivry Gitlis and took part in master classes byDorothy DeLay andKurt Sassmannshaus inAspen ,Colorado . She won several important prizes ('Joseph Joachim Violin Competition' in Hannover and a grant by the Free State of Bavaria 2001) and became a student ofAnne-Sophie Mutter 's circle of friends.Prizes and Honours
