* Trackway—Trackway can refer to animal or human tracks. Military trackways, occur because of high use, or high volume. Trackways also occurred in Central America and South American historical societies.

* Ancient trackway—Any track or trail whose origin is lost in antiquity.
* Fossil trackway—A trackway, commonly footprints, or handprints, but made by body parts of any kind. Defined as ichnofossils-(Trace fossils).
**Fossil trackways can be a "positive impression"–for example a footprint. However, "negative impressions" are also made by infilling of earth media.

Other meanings

* A trackway can be used as a collective term. When sites, are used on the perimeter of a lake, body of water, or other land boundary, a "trackway" becomes a collective term. The Great Plains of the USA have extended-use collective trackways of dinosaur and other species.
This may be due to migration routes.
Scientific article on individual fossil species, (dinosaurs for example), may refer "trackway routes" as to the routes to and from specific sites.
