Jarboesville

Jarboesville

Jarboesville, Maryland

Jarboesville was Lexington Park, Maryland before the Patuxent Naval Air Station was built on 1 April 1943. The town was then renamed Lexington Park in honor of USS Lexington after she was sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea. When the town was first founded it was named Jarboesville because of the Jarboe family that came to Maryland on Dove in the 1600s. They landed in St. Mary's City. The family then purchased land north near the Patuxent River. Jarboesville was created after the family sold part of their land.
