Julia Kamińska (born November 13,1987) is a Polish film and television actress. She played in a number of TV shows before landing on the lead role in TVN's "BrzydUla", Polish version of the international smash "Betty la fea" due in September 2008.

Biography

Early life

Julia Kaminska was born in Gdansk to a family of Polish Catholics. Her father Krzysztof Kamiński was a sailing naval engineer; currently he teaches in one of the universities in Trójmiasto. Her mother Malgorzata Kamińska quit her job after the birth of their second child, Christian Kamiński in 1991.

Julia's theatrical career started in middle school. In high school Julia also enjoyed some success as a photo model: in 2005 she even was a cover girl of a popular teenage magazine. However, neither the early headstart, nor the first steps in television didn't seem to affect her original career choice: German linguistics. In 2006 Julia started going to the University of Gdansk where she is currently enlisted as a student in the School of Modern Languages.

Theatrical career

While still in middle school, Julia joined Wybrzezak [http://wybrzezak.org/] an education-oriented theater first located in Gdansk, then moved to Gdynia. In Wybrzezak Julia assumed the title part in "Romeo and Juliet" where she played alongside Szymon Jachimek and Wojciech Tremiszewski, members of the popular "Kabaret Limo". In 2003 she originated the part of Gloria in Wybrzezak/University of Northern Iowa co-production of The Dead Poet Society which was her last effort for the company.

Television Career

In 2005 Julia debuted in a TV show "Pełną Parą [http://pelnapara.webpark.pl/] " together with her brother Christian Kamiński. The show didn't receive much acclaim and passed relatively unnoticed. Later that year she became a co-host for a local morning children show "Królestwo Mateusza" but left the program in the beginning of the following year. Later in 2006 Julia joined the cast of "Ja wam pokażę! [http://jawampokaze-serial.pl/pl/strona-glowna/] ", a TV show based on a popular Polish franchise [http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ja_wam_poka%C5%BC%C4%99!_(film)] based on a book by Katarzyna Grochola. Produced by TVP1, the show starred Edyta Jungowska as a clumsy and lovable Judyta Kozlowska. Julia plays her daughter Tosia. Praised by the critics and appreciated by the audience, "Ja wam pokażę!" became one of the most popular Polish shows in 2007 and averaged in 3.28 million viewers per week [http://jawampokaze-serial.pl/pl/aktualnosci/] .

BrzydUla

Early in 2008 Julia was cast as the lead character Ula in a TVN show "BrzydUla", a Polish remake of the internationally acclaimed "Betty la fea". As opposed to the famous American version "Ugly Betty" that airs weekly, "BrzydUla" is formatted closer to the Colombian original and will air nightly during workdays starting September 2008 with approximately 250 episodes planned. In the show, very unglamorous and nerdy Ula works for a fancy fashion house Dom Mody Febo & Dobrzański. Following the original stroyline, Ula falls in love with her boss Marek Dobrzański played by Filip Bobek.

Upcoming projects

Later in 2008 Julia is set to appear in Janusz Morgenstern's latest feature film "Mniejsze zło", a story of an opportunist writer in the 1980s Poland [http://www.stopklatka.pl/film/film.asp?fi=33656] . Also, the sequel for "Ja wam pokażę!" has been slated to air in the spring of 2009 [http://jawampokaze-serial.pl/pl/aktualnosci/] , however Julia's participation in it is unconfirmed.

Personal life

Julia is a very private person who tries to keep her personal life secret. She's known to be very close with both her parents and her brother. Julia was also rumored to date a member of the Russian mafia however that information remains unconfirmed.
