Annemieke Bes

Annemieke Marileen Bes (born March 16, 1978 in Groningen) is a Dutch sailor.

Bes started sailing in 1990 and competes in international level since 2001 where she started in the 470 class. In her first season in the yngling class she and her team mates Petronella de Jong and Annelies Thies became second in the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca. The following year she finished fifth at the SPA Regatta in Medemblik as well as fourth in the pre-Olympic event in Athens. During the World Championships only a 19th position was the maximum result. 2004 proved to be a much more successful year and they won the Athens Eurolymp Week as well as the Princess Sofia Trophy. They sailed to a 7th position at the World Championships in Santander and a 6th position at the SPA Regatta, which earned them a spot at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In Athens Bes, De Jong and Thies reached 56 points and ended up on the 4th position, just outside of the medals. Later that year they disappointed by becoming second at the Dutch national championships.

Bes decided to have a sabbatical yngling year and switched to the Laser Radial class for 2005 in which she participated in both the European Championship in Split (35th) as well as the World Championship in Fortaleza (13th) without much success. Back in the yngling she came to the 11th position at the European Championship in Medemblik, but during the Holland Regatta in the same city she finished in 5th position. At the World Championship in La Rochelle the result was a 9th position. A total of seven yngling sailors were selected to aim and qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Bes and her team mates became 4th at the World Championship in Cascais. Furthermore she became second in Qingdao at the Pre-Olympics, 2nd at the Dutch national championship, 4th at the European Championship in Warnemunde in 2007. In 2008 there was a third place in the Olympic Class Regatta of Miami and an 18th position at the World Championship, also held in Miami.

In July 2008 national coach Maurice Paardekooper selected Bes, Mandy Mulder and Merel Witteveen as the trio that will form the Dutch yngling boat at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Marije Faber, Renee Groeneveld, Marije Kampen and Brechtje van der Werf were not chosen in the team.
