Apalachee region

The Apalachee region is a distinct historical and geographical area using part the same boundaries as the Apalachee Province being bounded on the east by the Aucilla River, on the west by the Ochlockonee River, by the state line to the north and by the Apalachee Bay to the south.

The region comprises both geographical features of the Red Hills Region and Woodville Karst Plain. Elevation runs from 288 feet just south of Lake McBride in northern Leon County according to Tall Timbers Research Station to sea level at St. Marks, Florida.

Florida State University documents the use of Apalachee region in this passage:

"HMS Fox set sail from Nassau to the Apalachee region of Florida on September 4th, 1799. On board was the infamous William Augustus Bowles, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the "independent and sovereign" Creek Indian Nation of Muskogee."
