Samuel Hoare Jr

Samuel Hoare Jr (9 August 175114 July 1825) was a wealthy Quaker merchant and abolitionist born in Stoke Newington. He was one of the twelve founding members of the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. His brother was Jonathan Hoare who built Clissold House in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington. His brother-in-law was William Allen another notable Quaker abolitionist.

His banking firm later merged with those of Joseph John Gurney and Barclays to form part of Barclays Bank [ The Problem of Slavery in the Age of Revolution, 1770-1823, David Brion Davis.]
