"A Joyful Noise" is the second episode of the third season of the CBS drama series "Touched by an Angel".

Plot

Monica works with Dr. Adam (Dwight Schultz), who is a child psychiatrist, who is deeply frightened by an event that happened in his past. A young girl named Melissa (Mika Boorem) claims she hears the voices of angels, which Adam thinks is schizophrenia, and prescribes pills for her to take, which make her sick.

Andrew is assigned to paint the wall for the child waiting room, and paints birds in the picture, which Adam forbids. Adam then tells Monica he's going to his daughter's birthday. Andrew and Monica follow him, and find out his daughter is dead, and he's putting a birthday balloon on her grave.

Later, Melissa's mom complains to Adam saying that the medication is making her sick. After she leaves, Adam sees the wall Andrew painted. It is a picture of a log cabin with a beautiful forest and blue sky in the background. Adam freaks out and runs off. Monica follows her, and Adam drives to the cabin, and tries to kill himself. Monica stops him, and shows him the memory of his daughter's death: he and his daughter were cleaning their chimney, and saw a bird's nest on top. His daughter climbed on the roof to take it off, and slips off the roof and dies. Monica tells him that his daughter is safe, because an archangel named Clara took her up to heaven.

Later, Monica, Adam, and Melissa meet Clara at a church belltower. Clara tells Melissa to keep on trying to hear the voices in her head. Clara assures Adam that his daughter felt no pain during her death. When Adam and Melissa leave, Monica asks Clara why she can't sing as good as in heaven. Clara says because nothing is perfect on Earth than Heaven.
