Denis King

Not to be confused with Dennis King or King Denis.

Denis King (born 25 July 1939, Hornchurch, Essex) is an English Ivor Novello award-winning^[1] composer, singer and actor.

As a writer he composed music for the British television series The Adventures of Black Beauty, Within These Walls, Lovejoy and Worzel Gummidge amongst others. He also composed the theme to the 1992 series The New Adventures of Black Beauty. In the 1950s and 1960s he had some success playing in The King Brothers, with his two older siblings.

As an actor he appeared in episodes of Lovejoy and Oh Boy!. He is the former brother-in-law of the actress Carol White.^[2]

King wrote songs for the 1977 musical Privates on Parade and the 1986 film version of Jill Murphy's The Worst Witch featuring Charlotte Rae's "My Little School".

King was also the resident musical accompanist (with the Denis King Trio) on the BBC Radio radio comedy series Hello, Cheeky! from 1973 to 1979, and appeared in the TV version produced by Yorkshire Television in 1976.

King has also appeared as the accompanying pianist on BBC Radio's comedy series, I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

Film soundtracks

King's work has appeared in the films Rhubarb Rhubarb, If You Go Down in the Woods Today, Sweeney! and Sista dansen.
