The firm provides software and consultancy services for clients updating legacy systems to more modern platforms. The Company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

History
The Company was founded in 1976[3] and became Micro Focus Group in 1983.[3] In its early years it concentrated on COBOL products. In 1998 the Company acquired Intersolv Inc, an applications enablement business, for $534 million[4] and the combined business was renamed Merant.[3] In 2001 the business was demerged from Merant with help from Golden Gate Capital Partners and once again became Micro Focus.[5] It was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2005.[6]
On June 2008 the company acquired the Israeli NASDAQ listed software company NetManage for US$73.3 million. NetManage provides solutions to transform legacy applications into new Web-based business solutions.[7]
In July 2009 the Company acquired Borland, a developer of application lifecycle management tools, as well as the Quality Solutions (including automation tool Test Partner) part of Compuware.[8]
