"Rags To Riches" is a musical comedy drama series that was broadcast on NBC for two seasons from 1987 to 1988.

ynopsis

Set in the early 1960s, the series starred Joseph Bologna as Nick Foley, a businessman with a playboy lifestyle. In an attempt to develop a family man image, he decides to take in a group of six orphaned girls, moving them into his mansion in Bel Air, which he shares with his butler Clapper (Douglas Seale). Foley's original plans change when he grows fond of the girls and ends up adopting them.

The show was different from the regular comedy-drama in that the cast would often burst into song to help explain their feelings or move along the plot. Very often, the songs the cast sang would be covers of various hits from the 1960s.

Despite the show's novelty, ratings were not strong enough for the Friday night time slot. The show was canceled part way through its second season. The show has remained largely un-aired since that time.

Unfortunately, Rags to Riches suffers from music clearance issues, just like the most requested unreleased TV-on-DVD, The Wonder Years (also distributed by Fox). A commercial release is virtually impossible due to the exorbitant cost of clearing the music. However, if we all pitch in and write letters, hopefully we can convince the marketing department at Fox to make it commercially available. Also, don't forget to vote on tvshowsondvd.com!
