West Ryde railway station is a railway station in West Ryde on the Northern line of the CityRail network. It serves a well established commercial and residential area, and crosses busy Victoria Road which carries many bus routes.

History

The station was opened as Ryde station on 17 September, 1886. Ryde station's name was changed to West Ryde on 8 October, 1945.

Platforms/Service

The station is served by two trains per hour for most of the time, with additional trains at peak hours. All trains that serve the station during off-peak hours stop at all stations to the City or to Hornsby . Some express and limited stop services stop at West Ryde during peak hours.

Infrastructure and service

It has three tracks widening to four on the outbound side of the station. On the inbound side of the station the three tracks merge into two. The tracks are paired by direction, meaning the island platform is dedicated to city bound trains while outbound trains leave from the single side platform. The station is generally served by two trains per hour, with additional trains at peak hours. A small number of long distance interurban trains also stop at West Ryde.

West Ryde has Easy Access for wheelchairs, the street level platforms being connected to an overhead booking office by stairs and lifts. It is the closest station to the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society [http://www.slsls.asn.au/] miniature railway.

Bus Services

West Ryde has a bus interchange on the western side of the station, rebuilt in the early 2000s. It serves the following Sydney Buses routes:

*520 - (outbound) - Parramatta Railway Station (interchange Stand B3) via Denistone West, Ermington (Victoria Road), Rydalmere, and Camellia.
*523 - Parramatta Railway Station (interchange Stand B3) via Denistone West, Ermington (Cowells Lane & Spurway St), Rydalmere, and Camellia.
*524 - Parramatta Railway Station (interchange Stand B3) via Melrose Park, Ermington (Boronia St & Spurway St), Rydalmere (South St), and Camellia.

Stand B

*501 - City (Circular Quaystand C) via Top Ryde, Gladesville, Drummoyne and Rozelle.
*520 - (inbound) - City (Circular Quay - Loftus St stand) via Top Ryde, Gladesville, Drummoyne and Rozelle.

Stand C

*534 - Chatswood Railway Station via North Ryde, Macquarie Park, and Chatswood West.

Stand F

*543 - Eastwood Railway Station via Denistone West.

Stand D serves NightRide buses after midnight.

Lachlan Valley Railway

During the 1980s, West Ryde was the site of the Sydney Depot for the Lachlan Valley Railway, a rail preservation society. The station used to have a small goods yard servicing a freight shed (now 'Active Hire') and a siding running up to the West Ryde Pumping station. The LVR's locomotives and rolling stock used to be kept in the pumping station siding.
